The Client's Challenge

Following an HSE inspection, Hing Long Hong of Hull required a full asbestos management survey to identify any asbestos-containing materials within their premises and ensure they were meeting their legal duty to manage asbestos. The site consisted of multiple operational areas including warehouse storage, retail space, freezer rooms and office accommodation, creating a complex environment for inspection.

As the business remained open to customers throughout the day, the survey needed to be carried out with minimal disruption while still providing a thorough assessment of all accessible areas. The client also required a complete asbestos register and management plan to satisfy compliance requirements and provide clear guidance moving forward.

Our Approach

We carried out a detailed asbestos management survey across more than 1,500m² of warehouse, retail, freezer and office accommodation. The inspection was carefully coordinated around staff activities and customer access, allowing all key areas to be surveyed while the business remained operational.

A total of six samples were taken from suspect materials commonly associated with commercial and industrial buildings of a similar age. Laboratory analysis confirmed asbestos-containing materials within the corrugated cement roof sheets, cement gutters and cement rainwater downpipes. Additional samples taken from floor tiles, textured coatings and storage heaters returned negative results for asbestos.

All identified asbestos-containing materials were assessed, photographed and recorded within a detailed asbestos register. A full asbestos management plan was then prepared, providing the client with clear recommendations regarding ongoing management, monitoring and future maintenance considerations.

Positive Outcome

The survey provided Hing Long Hong with a fully compliant asbestos management survey, asbestos register and asbestos management plan, allowing the business to immediately satisfy HSE requirements and demonstrate compliance with asbestos legislation.

Although asbestos-containing materials were identified within external cement products, these materials were found to be manageable through appropriate monitoring and maintenance procedures. The client received clear guidance on future management requirements, ensuring staff, customers and contractors could continue using the premises safely. With a complete asbestos management system now in place, the business can confidently plan future maintenance works while maintaining ongoing compliance.
