The Client's Challenge
Following the purchase of their property, the client from Bradford wanted to improve the rear garden and replace an ageing garage with a new summer house. However, the garage had been constructed using asbestos cement materials to both the roof and walls, presenting a potential health risk if disturbed during demolition works.
The client required a contractor who could safely remove the entire structure, dispose of all asbestos waste correctly and ensure the site was left ready for the next stage of redevelopment. As with many domestic projects, the client also wanted the works completed quickly to avoid delaying their planned garden improvements.
Our Approach
Before any removal works commenced, we carried out a detailed assessment of the garage structure and developed a safe removal plan. The garage consisted of asbestos cement roof sheets, asbestos cement wall panels, a timber frame and a metal garage door.
The removal process began with the careful dismantling of the garage door to allow safe access to the structure. The asbestos cement roof sheets were then removed intact by cutting the fixing bolts and lifting each sheet individually to minimise fibre release. The wall panels were dismantled in sections using the same controlled approach, ensuring all asbestos materials remained intact throughout the process.
Once removed, all asbestos waste was carefully loaded into a dedicated hazardous waste vehicle and transported to a licensed waste transfer facility. Waste consignment documentation was provided to the client confirming the legal disposal of all asbestos-containing materials.
